High Dynamic Range
What is HDR?
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a range that approximates the human perception of color and light as content is shown on a display device. A monitor which supports HDR is able to correctly show both very bright and very dark areas on the screen without sacrificing the integrity of either. With lower-range SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) monitors, brightness, contrast, and color are lost when displaying HDR content.
EIZO HDR Technology
EIZO's ColorEdge PROMINENCE HDR reference monitors are the first to overcome the severe drawbacks of other HDR technologies available in the market, so they can be used reliably for post production work.
Auto Brightness Limiter (ABL) equipped in other HDR OLED monitors limits the monitor's ability to display lighter scenes with tones over a specific range. This causes those light areas to appear dimmer and the color duller as a result.
Local dimming uses an area control backlight system which adjusts the brightness in sections of the screen depending on the content displayed. However, when an object on the screen falls outside of the area of the backlight that is adjusted, a "halo" effect appears, making it impossible to achieve full color accuracy in smaller details.
EIZO's ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 achieves a true HDR visual experience without ABL or Local Dimming to ensure you always see accurate colors and brightness in every pixel.
HLG and PQ Curve
ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 supports hybrid log-gamma (HLG) and the perceptual quantization (PQ) curve for HDR video. HLG is compatible with SDR displays and is suitable for live television broadcasting. The PQ curve approximates the human visual system in terms of color and light perception, making it ideal for films, streaming, and other video content. Both functions (EOTF) were standardized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as ITU-R BT.2100. In addition, the PQ curve was standardized by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) as ST-2084.
Simple and Precise Color Management
Built-In Sensor to Automate Your Workflow

Video Compatibilities
The monitor's HDMI and DisplayPort inputs support DCI 4K at 60p. HDMI input supports 12-bit 4:2:2 at 50/60p and DisplayPort input supports up to 10-bit 4:4:4 at 50/60p.
Stable and Accurate Display
Wide Color Gamut
The wide gamut faithfully reproduces 99% of the DCI-P3 standard used in post production for faithful reproduction of color.
10-Bit Simultaneous Display
The ColorEdge CG3146 offers 10-bit simultaneous display* from a 24-bit look-up-table (LUT) which means it can show more than one billion colors simultaneously. This is 64 times more colors than you get with 8-bit display, resulting in smooth color gradations and reduced Delta-E between two adjacent colors.
*A graphics board and software which support 10-bit output are also necessary for 10-bit display. Equipment that supports DeepColor is required for 10-bit display when connected via HDMI.
3D LUT for Accurate Color Display
A 3D LUT is included which adjusts colors individually on an RGB cubic table. The 3D LUT also improves the monitor's additive color mixture (combination of RGB), which is a key factor in its ability to display neutral gray tones.
Stable Display Using Industry-First AI
The color and brightness of an LCD monitor can shift due to changes in ambient temperature and the temperature of the monitor itself. ColorEdge CG Series monitors are equipped with a temperature sensor for accurately measuring the temperature inside the monitor, as well as estimating the temperature of the surrounding environment. With this temperature sensing and estimation technology, the monitor adjusts in real-time so gradations, color, brightness, and other characteristics continue to be displayed accurately. Furthermore, EIZO uses AI (artificial intelligence)* in the estimation algorithm of the CG3146 so it can distinguish between various temperature changing patterns to calculate even more accurate correction. *Patent pending. Read more about image quality stabilization in our White Paper.
Stable Color in Just 3 Minutes
A typical monitor takes 30 minutes or more for its brightness, chromaticity, and tone characteristics to stabilize. The ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 takes a mere 3* minutes so you get reliable color display soon after turning the monitor on.
*Based on EIZO's internal testing.
Uniformity Across the Screen
LCD monitors commonly exhibit fluctuations in brightness and chromaticity across the screen, affecting color accuracy. To counter this, ColorEdge monitors are equipped with EIZO's patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology which corrects deviations in every tone across the screen to ensure stable display.

An additional mode called BT.709 Clipping allows the editor to view BT.2020 images within the BT.709 color space, simulating how it would look to their audience in an HDTV environment.
Pixel Inspection
Working within the wrong parameters affects the creator’s editing decisions, potentially requiring significant rework of the project and causing costly delays in production schedules. Pixel Inspection, operated through the monitor's OSD, shows the color information of a pixel from the source input data and the data as it is displayed on the monitor.
System managers can use this information to verify that the creator's technical settings match the current project's predefined color parameters. This is especially helpful when creators are working remotely and system managers cannot verify settings directly. By ensuring that creators are working under the appropriate technical conditions, studios can reduce the likelihood of project rework due to mismatched technical settings.
Pixel Inspection requires the latest firmware. Download it here.
